Columbia Dental - Restoring Dental Implants
Successfully placing dental implants is just one half of fully restoring your smile. Equally as important is selecting the right restoration that fully covers the implant posts and comprehensively restores aesthetics and function to your smile. As implants are especially versatile, there are a number of restorative options patients can select from. Some of the most common types of implant-supported restorations include:
Porcelain Crowns – For patients looking to replace only a single tooth with dental implants, crowns are often the recommended restoration option. Similar to a non-implant supported crown, this restoration fully covers the prosthetic tooth root, creating a seamless smile. At Columbia Gateway Dentistry, we use CEREC® CAD/CAM technology to fabricate natural looking crowns that look just like the neighboring healthy teeth.
Implant-Supported Bridges – Similar to traditional bridges, this restoration is designed to replace multiple missing teeth at once, eliminating the need for multiple individual implants. Rather than securing the bridge to neighboring teeth with crowns, implant-secured bridges are secured to implant posts with special attachments, known as abutments. Implant-supported bridges are fixed to the smile, so patients are able to clean them as they would a normal bridge, making at home hygiene a simple process.
Overdentures – In cases where entire arches must be replaced, overdentures are a comprehensive solution that combines the best aspects of implant dentistry and conventional dentures. Ideal for patients with existing dentures, implant-supported dentures provide patients with the ability to enjoy a more stable bite, allowing them to enjoy chewing and speaking without the difficulty. Depending on patient preference, overdentures can be permanently fixed dental implants or can be adapted to be easily removable for nightly cleaning.
